BRAZIL, A GREAT PLACE TO KNOW GOOD FOOD, PEOPLE AND HORSES
The horse business has grown up sharply in Brazil in the last years. The animals that were supposed to be working horses are now being used to entertain people in many ways such as Riding, Racing, Pulling, Jumping, and other kinds of activities involving Equine Species. Besides being used to entertain people, horses can also be used to treat several diseases, such as autism. This is called Horse Therapy, it has frequently been used and it shows a variety of ways in which they can be used.
National horse troop is constituted by more than 5 million horses. This number includes lead, recreation, and competition horses. The most interesting point about this fact is that even though high tech devices were introduced to the system, horses are still the main key to Agricultural and Livestock development. The activity currently moves about R$ 16,15 billion (about 4,28 billion dollars) per year. Horse business provides 610 Thousand employments, directly and about 2.430 Thousand Jobs, indirectly, it has been responsible for providing about 3 million workstations. Although the money is representative, the public-sector capital investment is negligible, but this situation is being reversed little by little.
Brazil counts with many horse events every year, the main events are organized by the horse associations such as ABCCC (Brazilian Association for the Crioulo Horse), ABQM (Brazilian Association of the Quarter Horse) and ABCCM (Brazilian Association for the Mangalarga Marchador Horse). These events move a huge amount of money, and it brings people from all over the country or even the world. The Associations events bring several modalities of equestrian competitions, animal expositions, and sales. They provide entertain and fun from infants to adults, without any kind of discrimination.
Taking care of all of these horses requires a huge number of Veterinarians, to attend the demand Brazil counts with more than 280 educational institutions. Among the greatest universities, there is USP (Universidade de São Paulo), UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho), UFMG (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais) and UFV (Universidade Federal de Viçosa). UNESP and USP are located in the state of São Paulo, and UFMG and UFV in the state of Minas Gerais, all of them in Southeast Brazil. There is a Veterinarian association called ABRAVEQ (Associação Brasileira dos Médicos Veterinários de Equídeos). ABRAVEQ aimed at integrating Equine Veterinarian professionals from all over the country, bringing technical and scientific knowledge to society through Annual Conferences.
Despite the lack of investment in education, Brazil keeps a broad range of technical and scientific collection related to the horse market. There is a list of online websites that provides this type of content for free. Informativo Equestre is an enshrined source in the equestrian scene in Brazil, it was developed in 2012 in order to create and distribute Technical content about horses. Nowadays Informativo is a national reference concerning this area, it has reached all professionals involved in the Livestock production. The website has provided knowledge to thousands of horse people in the country ever since, and now it also has achieved an international public.
